Estafeta USA celebrates Women’s History Month by honoring the influence of Latinas in the U.S. And we’re doing it by showing you who these amazing women are and what they think. So, here’s our list of 12 amazing Latinas in various walks of life. These 12 women are the role models and inspiration for all Latina girls and women to follow their dreams. Of course you all can!

12 Amazing Latinas in the United States

It is an honor to share the first part of our list of 12 amazing Latinas in the United States. They’re an example for our Hispanic community to follow, and proof that anything is possible, with passion and perseverance. They’re all public figures that we’ll get to know a little more through their quotes and some biographical details.

  1. Sonia Sotomayor. “I know only one thing about myself: I do not measure myself by the expectations of others or let others define my value.”

The first Hispanic Associate Justice of the United States Supreme Court was born in Brooklyn, NY, to a Puerto Rican family. She attended the prestigious Princeton and Yale universities, graduating with a law degree in 1980. After a successful 30-year career, she was appointed Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. This position, as one of the most influential women in the country, is allowing her to support the Hispanic community.

  1. Gloria Estefan. “Whatever your heart desires, go for it, it’s for you.”

Gloria is an icon, one of the predecessors of other successful Latinas in show business in the US. She was born in Cuba and when she was just one year old her family had to leave the island. From a young age she married Emilio Estefan, and together they have made a successful career in music. A fierce defender of her country, Cuba, Gloria is nonetheless, one of the most critical voices against its regime. “My only proposal is that all Cubans have the same freedom that I enjoy.”

  1. Isabel Allende. “We all have a reserve of unsuspected inner strength, which arises when life puts us to the test.”

This Chilean-American journalist and writer born in Peru. In 1982 she published her first novel, The House of the Spirits, an international best-seller. In 1988, she traveled to California promoting her second book, De amor y de sombras, and decided to live there. Since then, she has become one of the most successful writers of recent decades.

  1. Kate del Castillo. “Enjoy this moment, because we never know when life is going to hit us again.”

Kate is a Mexican actress, businesswoman, producer, philanthropist and an activist. She’s famous for her talent as well as being outspoken and stirring controversy at times. She’s been a telenovelas queen and has also made several series and movies in English as well.

  1. Jennifer Lopez. “In this life you have to have discipline. And if it’s not like that, that’s when you see that things are going off course”.

J-Lo defines herself as “Jenny from the block” in a song, honoring her Bronx upbringing, and Puerto Rican parents. As an artist, fashion icon, entrepreneur, and philanthropist, she has been on TIME magazine’s 100 Most Outstanding People list.

  1. Salma Hayek. “I intend to explain to people that a sensual woman is a person who thinks, feels and has dignity.”

This charismatic Mexican actress decided to leave a successful career in her country to pursue the Hollywood dream. And boy did she do it! Through the years she overcame difficulties as a Latina to land important roles. So much so, that in 2003 she received an Oscar nomination for his performance in Frida. Salma has managed to combine her work as an actress with producing, so she can support our culture and her talent.

These are the first 6 of our list of 12 Amazing Latinas in the U.S. These great women have something important in common, besides being Latinas. What characterizes them all is their tenacity to achieve their goals. At Estafeta USA we admire and applaud the strength and perseverance of all Latin women.
