    • Its purpose is to recognize the contributions of the Latino and Hispanic communities to American society throughout history.
    • Likewise, it’s about celebrating the growing presence of the Latino and Hispanic population in the country today.
  1. How Hispanic Heritage Month originated.

    • National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated annually September 15 to October 15.
    • It started in 1968, when the United States Congress authorized President Lyndon B. Johnson to proclaim National Hispanic Heritage Week.
    • In 1980 President Reagan, in pursuing President Ford’s initiative, obtained congressional approval in 1988 to extend it to one month.

    • The month-long celebration starts on September 15 for an important reason.
    • It is celebrated from September 15th as it is the Independence Day of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. Similarly, September 16 is Mexico’s Independence Day, and Chile’s 18th.

    • In 2021 Hispanic Heritage Month is being celebrated with events that could not be held last year. And there are a number of activities, both locally and at the federal level.

    • This celebration is an excellent opportunity to recognize the contributions of Latin Americans and Hispanics to the U.S. society.
    • Historically, Latinos have fought for the country in every war since the Revolution.
    • And today, their contributions are in all areas, from arts and entertainment, sports, science, education, to government administration, and business.
