There are many business lessons Post-Covid we have all learned in the past year. Overall, this has been a shocking, humbling experience for everyone, both at the personal and work level. And for business, it’s been an enormous adapt-or-leave, hands-on leadership and crisis management training.

Here are the most relevant business lessons Post-Covid as it relates to supply chain management organitations.

  1. Logistics as a Service. Many organizations didn’t quite understand their supply chain. There were several underlying weaknesses that surfaced with the Covid disruption

    • For many companies, these disruptions included sudden demand changes, suppliers ceasing operations, and raw materials shortages.
  1. Supply chain resiliency. One of the most significant business lessons Post-Covid lessons is the need to make supply chains more resilient.

    • Some steps in that direction might start by shifting from the very concept of supply chain.
    • Instead, experts recommend thinking in terms of ecosystems. Because the supply chain model is based on one-to-one relationships, while ecosystems refer to interconnected environments.
  1. Embrace change…or else. Only the flexible survived. And, the winners were those that had adapted new trends early on before the pandemic.

    • Thus, reinvention and continual learning are requirements for both business and professional sustainability.
    • And needless to say, digital transformation is not a choice, but a means for survival.
  1. Learn to manage uncertainty and to lead with empathy.

    • Learn to swim in a sea of uncertainty, because this is what “new normal’ looks like.
    • Stay connected with the human side of your customers, employees and suppliers. Get to know their struggles and questions. For this is the foundation of trust and loyalty.
  1. Keep communications open, honest and transparent.

    • Employees need to know they can feel safe at work. And this relates again to trusting their employer.
    • Customers expect business to be upfront about how the pandemic might have impacted usual operations, hours, regular operations, and services.
    • Partners and suppliers should be able to inform about any struggle they may be facing, and not be penalized for that honesty.

The list of business lessons Post-Covid is a work in progress, because organizations are still adapting. Only one thing is sure, normal is no more. And the new “business as usual” will take some time to reinvent itself.
